• The Mechanical Engineer will join a world-class team pushing the boundaries of materials research using AI and automation to accelerate discoveries.
• The role involves designing and building out an automated lab for accelerated materials discovery, collaborating with scientists to convert ideas into build-ready designs, and working with integrators and contract manufacturers for installation and system bring-up.
• The engineer will own the mechanical backbone of new tools and fixtures, emphasizing quality, safety, and speed of execution.

Responsibilities include:

• Translating user and system requirements into mechanical specifications.
• Leading design for manufacturing and service (DFM/DFS) with vendors.
• Reviewing drawings, GD&T/tolerance stacks, materials, and finishes.
• Defining factory/site acceptance test criteria; witnessing tests; driving punch-list closure.
• Supporting onsite assembly, alignment, anchoring; coordinating rigging.
• Designing fixtures, guarding, enclosures, mounting solutions (custom and off-the-shelf).
• Maintaining bills of materials, revision control, as-built documentation.
• Incorporating machine safety and ergonomics; collaborating on interlocks and guarding.

Qualifications:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
